Environmental Issues

The current concern with the environment, and the impact that housing development has on it, is clearly illustrated by the moratorium placed on development in the Upper Highway Areas.

All new projects will be considered for approval only after the developers have shown a commitment to preserve and enhance the natural environment.

Litchveld Architects are therefore vigorously active in the lobbying for eco-friendly estates, and attempts to create a structure for clients to respond in specific ways to this issue.

We believe that the more interlinked, closer or larger natural areas are, the greater their potential is to be a viable natural community. We encourage our clients to use only indigenous plant material, and landscape to the natural land contours, keeping site cuts to a minimum.

This earth is our only means of sustenance, virtually a small island in a large ocean, and we need to treat and manage it with respect if we expect it to yield and take care of all its inhabitants.

Litchveld will continue to design with this focus in mind.
